UTMB Master Plan
As an architectural designer, I played a pivotal role in a two-year collaboration between Blue Cottage Consultants, Walter P. Moore, AEI Consultants, and CannonDesign, serving our client, the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). This ambitious project encompassed extensive demographic research and involved conducting campus tours to interview various stakeholders, including ED/imaging techs, nurses, facilities managers, doctors, teachers, as well as executive directors of the facilities and various programs. Our aim was to gain insights into the diverse needs spanning education, clinical services, and research initiatives across UTMB's four regional campuses and develop a guiding vision based on data and core values, as well as comprehensive 15 year master plan for each campus
My responsibilities within the team included meticulously observing and mapping user flows, as well as identifying programmatic requirements. Together, we crafted innovative solutions for campus planning, program organization, and phased implementation over three five-year periods, all while actively incorporating and responding to client feedback.
Although the comprehensive 500+ page master framework document remains confidential for internal use at UTMB, I played a significant role in its development. My contributions spanned graphic design, drafting, facilitating user meetings, and managing and visualizing data for all four campuses.
An example of a public excerpt from the last master plan can be found here, UTMB revisits their master plan every five years.
